In this section I will show you how to create a
glass button in Illustrator

(1)
I started off by by creating a red circle.
(you could fill with any colour that takes your fancy).
(2)
I then added an inner glow
Effect/ Stylize/ Inner Glow (mode = Normal).
You can give it as much inner glow as you like.

I duplicated the red layer
and copied it on top of the red layer
Edit/ Copy/ Paste in front
and filled it with white, with NO border.
(you should now have a white circle sitting directly
over a red circle)

Copy the white filled circle
and fill with a black to white gradient
(You now have created three circles, the bottom red
circle with an inner glow, a white circle in the middle and circle
which has a black to white gradient fill which is the top circle)

Select the gradient layer and the white layer.
Go to Transparency and click on the arrow
(shown above the percentage bit) and select
"make opacity mask"
You can invert the mask if needed.

The white now goes to transparent.

You now have to resize the newly made white to transparent layer
till you are happy with it .
